A WhatsApp bot is an employee who answers customers on your business number, instantly and at any hour. It answers FAQs, collects details, books appointments, and hands over to a person when needed. It does not replace you, it filters for you.
Why WhatsApp
In Israel, and increasingly everywhere, most customers prefer messaging over calling or filling in a form. Messages are opened within minutes, unlike email. And every small business already knows how to use it. The only problem is that you cannot answer everyone instantly, and every message that waits an hour is a customer who may have already contacted someone else.
What a bot can do
- Answer the recurring questions: hours, address, prices, "do you have X?". That is 60–70% of messages in most businesses.
- Collect details: name, what they need, when suits them. Instead of you asking three questions, the bot already did.
- Book appointments: offers free slots from the calendar, books, sends a reminder.
- Take orders: from a restaurant to booking a school show.
- Send updates: "your order is ready", "your file moved to the next stage".
- Hand over to a person: with the full history, so the customer never repeats themselves.
Bot vs. "auto-reply"
WhatsApp Business has an "away message" and a "greeting message". That is not a bot. It is one fixed message. A real bot runs a conversation: shows buttons, reacts to the choice, remembers what the customer answered, and connects to your systems. The difference is like an answering machine versus a receptionist.
How it connects to your number
A bot runs through the WhatsApp Business API (not the regular app). Your business number is migrated to the API through an authorized provider, or you open a dedicated number. After connecting, you can still message customers yourself through a management interface, and see every conversation.
There is a small monthly fee to the provider (usually tens to a few hundred shekels, depending on volume), and that is important to know up front.
What a good bot looks like
Bad bots try to understand free text and fail. Good bots work with buttons: "tap 1 to book". The customer does not guess, and the bot does not get it wrong. And at every step there is a "talk to a person" button. Try a sample bot on my homepage.
What it costs
- Basic reply bot (button menu, FAQs, handover): a few thousand shekels, one-time.
- Bot with booking and calendar/CRM integration: more, depending on complexity.
- System with AI (document intake, data extraction, smart replies): priced by scope.
- Ongoing: the API provider, usually tens to a few hundred shekels a month.
Is it for me?
If you get more than 10–15 messages a day and at least half of them repeat, a bot pays for itself fast. If you get three messages a day, just answer them. Details on the bots I build.
